Where Is The Pectoralis major?
Pectoralis major muscle attaches to the upper bone of arm (humerus bone) and is divided into two parts.
The upper part is known as the clavicular head.
The lower part is known as the sternal head.
It forms the anterior wall and fold of the axilla, extending across the front of the axilla to insert on to the proximal humerus.
Pectoralis major tear symptoms
Tendon rupture from the humerus bone (arm bone) are most common due to sports and weight lifting such as bench presses. The actual muscle can tear but is less common and most rare is the Pectoralis major muscle tearing at the sternum.
What is The Function of the Pectoralis major?
The pectoralis major is an extremely powerful adductor, internal rotator, and flexor of the humerus.
Origin and Insertion of Pectoralis major
Origin: Sternum, clavicle and 1st-6th ribs
Insertion: Upper anterior humerus
